CHICA (Chics Helping Inner City Adolescents) is a community-based nonprofit serving youth ages 10–18 in Compton, California. For over 10 years, we’ve supported young people with consistent mentorship, educational assistance, and structured programming that helps youth build confidence, strengthen academic habits, and thrive.
CHICA’s mission is to support youth in underserved communities by providing mentorship, educational support, and safe spaces that empower young people to grow, learn, and thrive.
CHICA serves youth ages 10–18 from Compton and surrounding communities. Many of the young people we support navigate barriers related to limited academic resources, economic hardship, and lack of consistent mentorship outside of school.
We believe every young person deserves encouragement, opportunity, and adults who are invested in their success.
CHICA provides relationship-based programming that prioritizes consistency, trust, and positive youth development. Our work centers on helping young people strengthen academic habits, build confidence, and build life skills that support long-term success.
CHICA was founded in 2014 in Compton, California, in response to a recognized gap in support for youth transitioning beyond traditional school settings. After completing an independent study program within the Compton Unified School District, CHICA’s founder experienced firsthand how difficult it could be for young people to access consistent resources, guidance, and advocacy during a critical stage of development. Motivated by a desire to make that process more accessible for others, CHICA began as a community-focused effort to support local youth and has grown into an established nonprofit organization dedicated to mentorship, educational assistance, and long-term youth development.
CHICA’s programs are guided by a commitment to consistency, respect, and positive youth development. We focus on long-term growth—not just short-term outcomes.
Over the past year, CHICA served 20+ youth through the READY program, with participating students maintaining an average GPA of 3.0.
CHICA tracks participation and growth through attendance, surveys, and ongoing check-ins to support continuous improvement and meaningful outcomes.
CHICA is committed to responsible stewardship of every donation. We believe transparency builds trust and allows supporters to give with confidence.
Donations to CHICA primarily support direct youth programming through our READY initiative. Funds are used to provide academic resources, mentorship activities, enrichment experiences, and safe, structured spaces for youth ages 10–18.
CHICA prioritizes spending that directly benefits youth while maintaining responsible administrative operations.
